Want to be a better dancer? Do yoga, learn why!

Dancing is a powerful form of movement art, which gives every individual to express themselves through their very own unique bodies. Dance may look effortless, but it requires a lot of strength, flexibility and stamina.

Professional dancers are facing a lot of injuries when they practice. Dance is a physically challenging activity. Studies have shown that dancing five hours a day or longer leads to increased risk of stress fractures and other injuries. The intensive training that many dancers have gets them a little time to recover between the sessions. Dance can sometimes be painful for the body and actually increase the levels of anxiety.

This is where yoga can be really beneficial to dancers.

When dancers practising yoga on a regular basis, can help them to develop concentration and focus and fights stress. Yoga calms down the mind and gives more sense of inner awareness. Dancing is a very competitive career and could have a negative impact on some individuals. Yoga is quite the opposite. Yoga encourages a non-competitive and accepting attitude toward the body and this more compassionate and accepting way of approaching physicality could be so helpful during times of injury or stress.

Yoga creates a deep internal awareness of the body. An enhanced bodily awareness can allow you to move more freely and clearly, potentially improving your dancer’s movement. Working through movement to improve your whole self can create something which is continuous and has depth and it’s beneficial to your wellbeing.

Do FlyHigh Yoga for better flexibility and body awareness.

To be an amazing dancer you need to be flexible, to have balance and a really good sense of your body, so you can express all kind of emotions through your dance. So to achieve all of that you need something to help you. Meet FlyHigh yoga the perfect aerial yoga practice that can uplift your dancing career and help you get more in-depth knowledge of your body and movement. With FHY and the help of the belt that we use to perform the yoga asanas, it’s easy to build muscle strength and flexibility.

Having good flexibility goes far beyond a bit of stretching after your dance class. Imagine being able to go through your day-to-day life and practice without having any aches or pains, and no sore muscles.  That sounds amazing, right? Flexibility is about your freedom and being able to move freely with comfort and ease in your every dance sequence.

FlyHigh Yoga is a great way to mix up your usual dance routine and push your body to go deeper and be stronger in your poses. In addition to improving your posture balance during your dance performance, the support and suspension that you receive in FlyHigh yoga can improve your focus on your body so you can have more awareness of your body edges and movements.

This is why turning yourself over, upside down and allowing your spine to be free of that pressure can help you feel lengthened and relaxed. This really helps to release all the stress and pressure that is accumulated in your body.

The positions you can achieve in FlyHigh yoga also improve circulation. This brings you focus and improve the energy following in your body.

Whit FlyHigh Yoga you will learn new skills, work on your muscles and develop strength you never knew you had it’s a great workout for your core and upper body. A yogi between two different worlds

A yogi between two different worlds

A yogi between two different worlds

We met a lot of amazing people during our FlyHigh yoga teacher training who became inspiring yoga teachers. We would like to introduce you to Tatiana, who was a mentor in our latest FHY teacher training in Shanghai.

Tatiana is from Russia, but she had spent the last 5 years practising yoga in Shanghai. Apart from her yogi lifestyle, she is passionate about healthy and delicious food and fashion. As we all know every yogi has a special story about how yoga transformed their lives.

The beginning of a long yoga journey

Tatiana’s first acquaintance with yoga began a long time ago when she still lived in Russia. Back in the days, yoga wasn’t so popular in Russia and not everyone understands it. Her first yoga practice wasn’t pleasant at all and she felt very dizzy, but she decided to give yoga a second chance.

And … ”Looking back, I would like to say how grateful I am to my teacher, who believed in me and encouraged me to not give up. When I moved to Shanghai, I didn’t understand how I could I live without yoga. That’s why I started to look for a place to continue my practice. I have tried a lot of yoga studios and teachers until I found the right place, where I can deepen my practice and knowledge about yoga. There was I time that I had a very busy schedule, but I never missed a single class. Doesn’t matter if I was in a good or bad mood, or just tired, I give myself a magic kick to go to my yoga practice.

The reason behind my devotion and motivation is that yoga recharges me like nothing else, and it’s the easiest way to stay healthy and mindful in the dynamics and stressful everyday life…”

Other than living and practising yoga in Asia, Tatiana has had the opportunity to not only explore the Asian yoga lifestyle but also the European one. Her life in Berlin helps her to see the difference between the western and eastern yoga life.

“In my opinion, there are more yoga schools, opportunities and “yoga- likeminded” people in Asia. Meanwhile, yoga in Europe still has the potential to expand and develop. Of course, you can find everything you need in the big cities, but if you go further out of them, it becomes more complicated and challenging for the yoga practitioners.

Yoga can make you fly

Tatiana’s yoga journey took her to Bali. The island that has the intoxicating power to provoke you to experiment and try new things. This magical vibes took her to a FlyHigh yoga class.

“I started practising FlyHigh yoga in Bali with different teachers and I liked it very much because I saw real progress in my usual Ashtanga practice. It helped me to improve some asanas. I remember being so inspired by the practice, that I bought the FlyHigh yoga DVD and the FHY belt to continue to practice when I went back to Shanghai. I was so passionate about flying, so when I returned to Bali for the third time I was lucky to be a part of the FlyHigh teacher training.”

FlyHigh yoga combines traditional yoga poses and postures with the help of the belt. And it’s inspired by the oldest traditions of Iyengar yoga. The beauty of this kind of aerial yoga is that it gives you freedom and helps you to learn and be more confident in your regular yoga practice. As Tatiana said, she loves it because the FlyHigh yoga helped her to discover a new dimension of her daily yoga practice.

“The key is the belt. You can practice the same poses that you still can’t do in your regular practice for some reasons. For example, if you can’t do a handstand, when you know that your belt is there for you and supports you, you can do this asana so easily. The FHY belt can help you to learn how to adjust your hands, head, legs and body in these positions, and to gain strength. After practising FlyHigh yoga you can easily go into the poses in your regular practice. But you have to understand, my advice to all of the yogis is that there is no magic in life! Practice yoga regularly, be patience to yourself and your body.  Work hard and one day you will achieve your goals.”

After this experience, she joined the latest FlyHigh yoga teacher training, led by the founder of FlyHigh yoga – Jose Luis Jimenez, as a mentor in Shanghai.

“This opportunity was more than just an experience. As I told teacher Jose, the feeling was like in those 5 days I had lived another life. Five amazing days which were dedicated only for yoga. Meeting those 22 amazing and dedicated yogis, was such an inspiration for me. In the beginning, as a teacher, you have to create the trust with your students, break the ice and by the end of the training you’d already know everyone. At the end, I was so happy, but at the same time sad, because the training was over. The connection between the people was so strong, regardless of the short period of time that they know each other. I remember the last day, when the training was over and everyone took their certificate, people just stayed at the yoga studio until late at night and talked to each other, asked me questions and shared between us the love of yoga and FlyHigh yoga. It’s amazing how FlyHigh yoga can bring people together, make them friends, like a family.”

Yoga is lifelong learning, a journey that never stops. You can find more inspirational and real yogi stories on our blog. If you are curious about the yogis’ lifestyle in Shanghai, check Lynn’s story, who is one of the best yoga teachers there.

Take the leap this New Year and turn your world upside down

Take the leap this New Year and turn your world upside down

Take the leap this New Year and turn your world upside down

Looking back to the past year we see all the amazing people we have met and all the experiences that we went through. Yoga is always a powerful part of our lives. The New Year brings deep reflection and introspection that can amplify processes of self-inquiry, expanding our spiritual awareness and commitment to yogic living and passing everything that we had learned to the people around us.

The New Year is around the corner and is time to set our intention, something that we want to cultivate more of in our work life, relationships or life in general. This intention is called San Culpa in Sanskrit and it is a powerful tool for manifesting our deepest desires into reality. While this is classically done in yoga, this can also be done at the beginning of each day and most certainly at the start of a new year, something we commonly know as the “new year’s resolution.”

Give your self-time to think about all the lessons you had learned and all the self-healing that you had gone through. Thank yourself, be kind to yourself and look at what is waiting in front of you…

This new year we set the intention to help you grow, to have a better understanding about yourself and to go deeper in your yoga practice or to become a better yoga teacher, so you can help others.

There are a lot of definitions to what yoga means. The simple explanation is the connection, a union with the inner self. Yoga means to completely know yourself and to be at peace with it. Letting go of all the things that make us suffer and to embrace the freedom. Yoga is the clear knowledge of being one with the source of all life.

This New Year we invite you to be free, to be brave enough to give yourself everything that your soul so desperately needs. The connection with the mind, the union between your thoughts, feelings and soul.

How FlyHigh yoga can help you this New Year?

Nothing changes the way you view your own life experience like seeing the way other people live. This New Year takes the leap and travel. Meet other yogis and see the world from a different perspective. Travelling is transformative; seeing new places can take you out of your element and remind you of why you are alive. There is no place more amazing to explore your yoga experience, than Bali.

In Bali, you can meet people who will understand you and support you on your journey. Deepen your yoga practice by trying something new and excited.

FlyHigh yoga would like to offer you a life-changing experience in this new year. We are starting our two types of training that will help you build your teaching career and provoke you to see the world from a different perspective by meeting extraordinary people from all over the world and share your love for yoga with them. Imagine 5 days of intense learning about alignment, adjustment, anatomy biomechanics, bio movement and so much more. Sink into the magical world of guided relaxation and mystic healing. Turn your world upside down, face your fears and free your mind from all the blockages. If you are new at aerial yoga you can sign up to our beginner’s level where we will help you to set up the foundations of your FlyHigh yoga practice. After that, you can continue with our Fly High Yoga Level Two, which will bring you out to do any adjustments. With every level two, you will gather another 50 Hour so you can keep doing another level two. When you take four courses 50 Hour FlyHigh Yoga, you can combine it into a 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certificate. Joining our FlyHigh Yoga community is an amazing opportunity and uplifting experience. You will be supported by so many people around the world that teach and practice FlyHigh yoga and help their students to deepen their yoga practice, be focused on the asanas and overcome their fears. If you are intrigued, check our upcoming courses here.

We have planned so many exciting things this year and we would be so happy to have you join us on this journey of self-knowing and loving. You can meet our inspiring founder Jose Luis Jimenez in Ubud, Bali, or maybe join him in China for our annual tour. You can find out more about it very soon on our event calendar. Some of our graduate students around the world are also planning trainings all over Europe and Asia that you can check out.

This New Year will be so exciting and full of adventures and transforming experiences. It’s up to you to make it memorable! Take the first step to turn your world upside down!

Why become a FlyHigh Yoga teacher?

Why become a FlyHigh Yoga teacher?

Why become a FlyHigh Yoga teacher?

Becoming a yoga teacher is a wonderful and rewarding journey you are about to embark on. To be a yoga teacher means that your dedication to yoga practice has developed into something beyond asana. You are ready to help others develop their personal and spiritual practice.

On the path to becoming a yoga teacher, you practice with as many different teachers and styles as possible so you can develop your own way of teaching yoga. And why not to add something more to your teaching practice?

Everything in our life is becoming too serious, too stressful and FlyHigh yoga can break this pattern. It can distract our mind of the daily routine and help us to become more aware of ourselves. We can also have so much fun with our practice, spreading the joy and happiness to the people is the most rewarding think that you can have as a FlyHigh yoga teacher. Why?

As a FHY teacher, you will add to your student’s life more happiness and joy. Teaching them how to be focused, how to let go of fear and past their limitation stored in the mind. Be the revolutionary teacher that can transform once life.

The 5 pillars of Fly High Yoga

First, the practice is very playful and fun, and when something is fun is easy to learn and practice. When encouraging people to have fun you also encourage the community inside the practice and outside of it. People come and meet each other. When you practice outside and hang out the belt on some tree, other people around you become interesting of what you do and the FlyHigh yoga belt becomes a fantastic tool for socialise with people around you and be part of a community. In every practice, we learn a lot about biomechanics so people who practice FlyHigh yoga become more aware of how the body moves. There are also aspects of mindfulness because when you play with the belt your mind is focusing on the tool and you can forget about everything in this moment. And the last pillar of FlyHigh Yoga is courage because you must cross a line in your mind and go beyond your mental limitations. You must trust the belt and when you do that you can do poses that you never imagine that your body can do. And you breakthrough your fear limitation.

All of this makes FHY practice totally different from the traditional yoga, but at the same time, its roots are from the traditions of Iyengar yoga.  We can break some posture habits and release the tension in our body. Basically, yoga is all about realising the tension in the body, so we can be more mindfulness and can meditate in peace and full awareness.

Easy ways to defeat and relief the back pain

Easy ways to defeat and relief the back pain

Easy ways to defeat and relief the back pain

Yoga is one of the most effective remedies for helping soothe the back pain. If the practice is done right, it can help to stretch and strengthen muscles that support the back and the spine, if yoga practice is used in conjunction with physical therapy, it can improve the muscle movement and focus the mind. The combination of the two goes well beyond flexibility and strength building.

Yoga practice is recommended to avoid the wrong posture of the body, which is the main source of back pain. Unfortunately, many people bring their incorrect posture routine into their practice. In this cases, the practice isn’t helping and even can worsen the problem. The best solution is yoga practice that is based on alignments, like FlyHigh Yoga for example. By practising that kind of yoga practice people can heal and create a spine decompressions.

To support that, we talked with one of the best experts on this topic in Bali – Pascal Steenbakkers, a Senior Physiotherapist Consultant at Bodywise Bali-Therapy Centre, Seminyak. He is Dutch with more than 22 years of clinical experience, specialized in sports injuries, acupuncture, dry needling and spinal injuries. Pascal is one of the most booked physiotherapist consultants in the region who helps numerous people from all over the world. He frequently combines spinal treatments with the Fly High Yoga belt. The top 3 injury areas he regularly sees in his practice are shoulder, knee and spinal problems.

Lower back pain can cause problems that involve nerve irritation or compression that can lead to hip and knee pain.  It is not uncommon to have back pain with knee pain as well.  When your lower back hurts, you could change the way that you walk which could cause your knee and hip to start hurting.  Sometimes the knee injury occurs first.  Then due to an abnormal gait pattern, the hip or the lower back will become painful.

“Different types of back pain need a different kind of approaches. When I advise a patient to use the FHY belt, it is mainly to reduce the disc pressure, which is very helpful. Not only gives it immediate pain relief, but it helps them to also rehydrate the disc over time. They should use it on a daily base for about 10 mins.” – says Pascal.

One of the greatest benefits of Fly High Yoga is that it provides major spinal decompression, offering relief from different forms of back pain. With this decompression of the joints and spine, proper alignment and posture can be achieved with more ease. Additional benefits of this type of yoga are increased upper body circulation and it significantly improves strength, stability and flexibility at any level of practice. A great full body workout in each class since almost every part of the body is utilized, strengthened and stretched throughout the class.

According to Pascal, yoga is beneficial for most of us. It builds strength, coordination and flexibility. Relaxation and reducing stress is very important these times as well. Emotional stress often is the reason for different kind of back, shoulders and neck pain.

Pascal practices FlyHigh yoga himself and recommends the FlyHigh yoga belt mainly for spinal decompression. “It feels great and it definitely reduces my lower back pain (also from my patients). It also brings more blood to the brain, which increases the oxygen level. So who knows, I might become a bit smarter as well.” – says Pascal.

The FlyHigh Yoga hanging belt is a fantastic tool used to perform aerial yoga. Optimum for restorative inverted poses and intensifying your ground yoga poses. FHY Belt is a lifestyle tool for alleviating stress, releasing tension and strengthening the body and the mind.

FlyHigh yoga for beginners

FlyHigh yoga for beginners

FlyHigh yoga for beginners

Yoga can be fun, a source of joy and mental health, inner peace and happiness. Especially FlyHigh yoga, if you never try an aerial style of yoga till now we can tell you that from all of the aerial yoga styles this is the best one!

Whether or not you’re familiar with yoga, the idea of doing yoga in the air can seem kind of odd or really exciting. FlyHigh yoga doesn’t mean you’re going to be doing downward dog on a trapeze. Instead, you’ll be supported by a soft belt which allows your body to let gravity do some of the work.

Before we begin, let us tell you the story of this amazing yoga style. FlyHigh Yoga is a new, attractive and versatile style of yoga inspired by Iyengar yoga. It started in 2012 in a beautiful and inspiring city in Bali – Ubud, with the development of the FlyHigh Yoga Belt. This belt is a simple and unique tool for a gravity-defying, creative, fun, precise and alignment-based style of yoga. With The FlyHigh Yoga belt, you are able to do regular yoga poses and other gravity-defying moves in a supported way. This makes the progression of the practice easier, more precise, more intense and more fun!

Many yogis barely use props, mostly because they have never seen where they fit into their practice. The belt, however, is a whole different story. By using the FlyHigh belt, you can open your body to stretches in entirely new ways. Also if you are new in yoga practice you can find it much easier with the help of the belt.

Are you ready to get started with FlyHigh yoga?

FlyHigh yoga can be performed by almost anyone but requires certain safety measures to avoid injury. The most important thing is to adjust your belt right and understand how to perform certain poses. Wear comfortable clothing, ideally long sleeve shirts and long pants so as to avoid uneasiness caused by the belt rubbing against the skin. Most importantly, start off slowly and progress at a cautious pace.

Is it difficult?

Of course not. FlyHigh yoga isn’t necessarily as difficult to do as it is to get used to. The hardest part is getting used to the belt, and learning how to move in it. Once you get comfortable, you should find the poses easier and more comfortable to perform. You will find that, because of the belt and the gravity you can feel your body in totally different ways.

What to expect in your first FlyHigh yoga class?

Expect to laugh a lot and to have an amazing fun. You don’t need to have a regular yoga practice to go to your first FlyHigh yoga class. You’ll start on the ground with plenty of time to get used to the belt first. The FlyHigh yoga can be really physical practice and you will notice that you work on differed muscles groups on your body. At the point when you’re upside down, you’re really only about 3 inches off the ground, so don’t be afraid to fly. You’ll leave class feeling taller and lighter.

FlyHigh yoga is for everyone! Challenge yourself with something new and give it a try. Before you know it, you will be doing a lot of amazing poses that wouldn’t be possible without the FlyHigh yoga belt. Sing up to our next FlyHigh yoga training and bring something new to your yoga practice.
